Radio Communication with POD Hospital
PURPOSE:
To provide a redundant form or communication with our regional POD hospital in the event that MERCI Communication is unavailable.

1. A Kenwood Transceiver is maintained in the Emergency Department near the current MERCI radio system.

2. This radio will be programmed for incoming and outgoing communication between Community Memorial Hospital and Belleville Memorial Hospital (POD hospital).

3. This redundant form of communication will be powered by hospital generated electricity in the event of a power outage.

4. During a Phase I or Phase II disaster this radio will be utilized if other communication options are unavailable.

When Ten-codes should not be used

Their use is expressly forbidden in the Incident Command System.

When using ICS, plain language is required. 10 codes are not the same in all jurisdictions. While plain English is not required for internal operations, it is encouraged over 10-codes to promote familiarity within operational procedures used in emergencies.

As of 2009, ten-codes remain in common use.
